⚠ Early Warning Score

Hospital-style scoring for newborn puppies. Tap the closest match for each of 8 signals — you'll get a live green / amber / red risk band and a do-now / don't-do protocol. Free, no signup, no data leaves your phone. None of this replaces a vet — phone yours while you act if you can.

🌡 Temperature

Rectal temp, taken in the last 30 mins. Newborn-safe range is 35.5–37.5°C / 95.9–99.5°F.

Weight change (last 24h)

Weigh at the same time each day. Healthy newborns gain — losing >10g is a red flag.

🍼 Feeding

Latching, sucking strength, willingness to feed in the last hour.

🔊 Crying intensity

Continuous distress crying — especially high-pitched — is a sign of pain or hunger crisis.

Energy / responsiveness

When you pick the pup up — do they react, wiggle, push back? Or hang limp?

👄 Gum colour

Lift the lip, look at the gum. Pink = oxygenated. Pale or blue = oxygen emergency.

💧 Hydration (skin turgor)

Pinch the scruff gently — does the skin snap back? Slow return = dehydration.

🫁 Breathing

Watch the chest rise and fall for 30 seconds. Steady = good. Gasping = emergency.
